Understand your patterns. Find what helps.

A private stress-and-recovery coach for Apple Health. One small experiment today. Personal insight over time.

Cortisol Aware and Apple Watch do not measure cortisol.

Cortisol is real. A watch reading is not.

Cortisol is an essential hormone. It supports the stress response, metabolism, blood pressure, and inflammation. Levels usually run higher in the morning and lower later in the day.

Clinical measurement

Blood, urine, or saliva

General wellness context

Sleep, HRV, heart rate, and activity

Context is not a cortisol result.

The essential limit

Cortisol Aware is an educational wellness tool. It does not measure or estimate cortisol, diagnose a condition, recommend treatment, or replace laboratory testing, a health professional, or emergency care.

A careful loop, not a quick score.

You see the work behind each observation. No mystery number. No fake hormone calculation.

  1. 1

    Compare your recent pattern

Selected observations are compared with your own available history—not a population “ideal.”

  2. 2

    Try one small action

Choose a low-risk experiment that fits today. Skip it without guilt when it does not.

  3. 3

    Learn from your follow-up

Say how it felt. The app waits for repeated, comparable observations before showing a possible pattern.

One attempt never becomes a pattern.

Focus on what you can observe. Leave room for real life.

Cortisol control is not the promise. A calmer, more informed routine is the focus.

01

Sleep rhythm

A regular schedule and a quieter, dimmer hour before bed can support healthy sleep habits.

02

Light & time outdoors

Light and darkness are major cues for the body’s circadian system.

03

Movement

Even small amounts of activity can be a useful place to begin, based on your abilities.

04

Eating pattern

Meal timing and caffeine can affect sleep context. No food or schedule “balances” cortisol.

05

Relaxation

Slow breathing and focused attention may feel calming. They do not replace care.

Build routines that leave more room for the day—and the people—you care about.

Small actions. Personal evidence.

Cortisol Aware helps you understand your patterns and make choices that support how you want to feel.

Less guessing

One practical next step, based on your context.

No streak pressure

Skip a day without guilt.

Private by design

What Helps MePossible observations emerging for you
An earlier wind-down appeared helpful

On 4 of 5 similar evenings, you reported feeling more settled.

A short walk may fit your afternoons

You felt better more often after trying it. This is an association, not proof.

Patterns take time

One-off changes stay observations. Repetition builds context.

Your health context stays on your device by default.

Read-only access. No microphone. No account required. You stay in control.

Medical terms deserve medical context.

Daily stress is not a diagnosis. The conditions below require qualified clinical evaluation and standard tests.

Cushing’s syndrome

A clinician-diagnosed disorder caused by exposure to too much cortisol over a long period. Long-term, high-dose glucocorticoid medicines are a common cause; some tumors can also cause the body to make too much cortisol.

Cushing’s disease is the subset caused by a pituitary tumor that makes too much ACTH.

NIDDK: Cushing’s syndrome

Adrenal insufficiency

A clinician-diagnosed condition in which the body does not make enough cortisol. Addison’s disease is primary adrenal insufficiency caused by damage to the adrenal glands.

Symptoms can overlap with many other problems. An app or symptom list cannot diagnose it.

Endocrine Society: Adrenal insufficiency

“Adrenal fatigue”

“Adrenal fatigue” is not a scientifically established medical diagnosis, and there is no validated test for it.

Ongoing fatigue, weakness, sleep problems, or low mood deserve an appropriate clinical evaluation.

Prescription steroid safety

Do not stop or change prescription corticosteroid or glucocorticoid medicine based on this website or app. Talk with the clinician who prescribed it.

Get emergency help now

Adrenal crisis is a medical emergency. If you have diagnosed adrenal insufficiency and develop severe vomiting or diarrhea, cannot keep your prescribed corticosteroid medicine down, or have severe weakness, dehydration, abdominal pain, confusion, fainting, or very low blood pressure, follow your clinician’s emergency plan and seek immediate medical attention. Call your local emergency number.

Frequently asked questions.

Does Cortisol Aware measure cortisol?

No. Cortisol Aware and Apple Watch do not measure or estimate cortisol. Clinical cortisol testing uses a biological sample such as blood, urine, or saliva.

Can the app diagnose a condition?

No. It cannot diagnose stress, Cushing’s syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, insomnia, anxiety, “adrenal fatigue,” or any other condition. It offers general wellness context only.

What can Apple Health tell me?

With permission, the app can compare selected observations such as sleep, heart rate, HRV, and activity with your own recent history. Each signal has many possible influences.

When should I speak with a clinician?

If fatigue, weakness, weight change, sleep difficulty, or other symptoms are persistent, worsening, or concerning, contact a qualified health professional. These symptoms have many possible causes.

Where is my health data processed?

Raw HealthKit data stays on your device by default. The app uses read-only access for the data types you choose and does not require an account.

You do not need another score. You need a calmer next step.
